Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Job Description:
Venture Dynamics is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support shop and field repair operations for a growing equipment service company in Savannah, GA. This role may also be referred to as an Aerial Equipment Mechanic or Lift Equipment Technician depending on background. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair aerial work platforms, scissor lifts, and telehandlers including boom systems, cables, and hydraulic cylinders in both shop and field environments.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on aerial work platforms, scissor lifts, and telehandlers using OEM service manuals, schematics, and system testing procedures
- Perform diagnostics and repairs independently in both shop and field environments
- Perform boom system inspections, adjustments, and repairs including structural components, wear pads, and extension mechanisms
- Inspect, service, and rebuild hydraulic cylinders including seal replacement, rod repair, and pressure testing
- Inspect and replace wire rope, chains, and cables on lifting and aerial equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications
- Perform hydraulic system repairs including hose replacement, pump and valve servicing, and system pressure diagnostics
- Read and interpret OEM service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins to guide repair procedures
- Conduct functional testing and safety inspections to verify repair quality prior to return to service
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or Aerial Equipment Mechanic
- Demonstrated troubleshooting ability across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on aerial or material handling equipment
- Experience performing boom, cable, and hydraulic cylinder repairs independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to read and interpret OEM service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation
- Ability to work in both shop and field environments supporting equipment repair operations
- Must pass background screening and drug testing per client requirements
- Reliable attendance and ability to meet shop production and field service schedules
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with JLG aerial work platforms, scissor lifts, or telehandlers
- JLG factory training or equivalent OEM certification
- Experience in an authorized service center or dealership repair environment
- Familiarity with warranty repair documentation and service record requirements
Additional Information
Work is performed in both shop and field environments supporting equipment maintenance and repair operations. Duties involve working on and around heavy machinery including aerial platforms, scissor lifts, booms, and telehandlers. Exposure to industrial noise, hydraulic fluids, grease, and outdoor conditions is expected. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies, and respiratory protection may be required based on task or location. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts based on workload and service demand. Reliable transportation is required to report to assigned shop and service locations.
