Burn Table Operator Maritime / Ship Repair Industry

Location: Norfolk, VA
Pay Rate: Based on interview and experience
Schedule: Full-Time | [1st Shift / Days]

Position Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Burn Table Operator to join our maritime ship repair team. The Burn Table Operator is responsible for setting up and operating a CNC or manual burn table to cut steel plates and structural materials according to blueprints and job specifications. This position plays a key role in supporting fabrication and ship repair operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC or manual burn tables to cut metal plates and shapes for ship repair and fabrication projects.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and templates to determine cutting requirements.

  • Measure, align, and secure material on the table for accurate cutting.

  • Monitor cutting operations to ensure parts meet quality and dimensional standards.

  • Maintain equipment and perform routine checks to ensure safe and efficient operation.

  • Clean and organize the work area and handle materials safely.

  • Assist with other fabrication or shipyard tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read blueprints and fabrication drawings.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain tight tolerances.

  • Basic computer skills for CNC programming and file setup.

  • Knowledge of shipyard safety practices and material handling.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, industrial/maritime environment.

  • 4 plus years of experience operating a burn table, plasma cutter, or oxy-fuel cutting machine (preferred).
